Your Internship Journey
Tell us your academic field, skills, interests, availability and learning goals. We assess fit against current community and partner priorities before confirming a placement.
Receive guidance on travel, health and safety, safeguarding, cultural humility, programme expectations and communication with your supervisor or host organization.
Complete an in-country orientation covering FOSCOD’s work, local context, ethical development practice, personal safety and respectful community engagement.
Work with local stakeholders to understand existing strengths, priorities, risks and practical opportunities. Learner interests never replace community-defined needs.
Develop a realistic work plan with clear objectives, roles, milestones, safeguards, resources, feedback arrangements and a sustainability or handover pathway.
Contribute technical, research or programme skills under named local supervision. Progress is reviewed with FOSCOD, the host and relevant community stakeholders.
Track deliverables and learning while creating space for independent host-community feedback. Reflective sessions help you adapt responsibly throughout the placement.
Present your work, document lessons and transfer useful outputs to the community, FOSCOD or host organization so that progress can continue after your placement.

Who Can Apply
FOSCOD welcomes university and college students, recent graduates, researchers, and early-career or experienced professionals.
Selection depends on the relevance of your skills, current project needs, availability, supervision capacity and willingness to follow ethical, safeguarding and community-led practice.
Applications from academic teams and candidates completing fieldwork, practicums or supervised research are also considered where the proposed work creates a clear local benefit.
Community Priorities Come First
FOSCOD structures internships around locally defined priorities—not around short-term learner interests. Every placement requires appropriate supervision, safeguarding, community feedback and a realistic continuity or handover plan.
Locally Defined Work
Projects and research questions begin with community or host-organization priorities and build on existing local knowledge and assets.
Ethical Research and Consent
Research and storytelling require informed consent, responsible data practice, community validation and accessible sharing of useful findings.
Continuity Beyond the Placement
Right-sized scope, local mentors, documented handover and follow-up help useful work continue after an intern leaves.
Duration and Location
Most structured internships are planned for 4–12 weeks. Longer research or technical placements may be agreed when a project needs greater continuity.
Your final duration is confirmed against project scope, academic requirements, supervisor availability and the time needed to deliver a responsible handover.
Where You Will Work
Jinja, Buikwe and partner locations across Uganda
Direct placements generally centre on Jinja and Buikwe, including community work around Kalagala Parish/Ward. Qualified partner-hosted placements may be offered elsewhere in Uganda when the role, supervision and safeguarding arrangements meet FOSCOD standards.
