Biochar Uganda

Regenerating Land, Livelihoods & Climate in Kalagala Parish, Uganda

Welcome to Biochar Uganda

Led by the Foundation for Sustainable Community-Based Development (FOSCOD), Biochar Uganda transforms invasive water hyacinth from Lake Victoria and the Nile into stable biochar for soil improvement, clean cooking, and compost sanitation. The project delivers permanent carbon removals and vital rural co-benefits.

Why Kalagala Parish?

  • Invasive aquatic weed outbreaks (water hyacinth)
  • Deforestation and fuelwood dependency
  • Soil degradation and poor farm productivity
  • High youth unemployment and sanitation gaps
