Tree Planting with T4NA.
In a commitment to environmental sustainability, FOSCOD partnered with Together for a New Africa (T4NA) to plant 212 trees in Kalagala Parish as part of the Kalagala Greening Project. This initiative, launched in 2022, aims to restore tree cover, combat climate change, and instill a culture of conservation.
Kalagala UMEA Primary School was chosen as the planting site due to its ample land and rainwater harvesting systems. The initiative involved sensitization workshops, hands-on training, and community engagement activities. Birungi Eco-Initiative provided essential knowledge on tree planting, climate adaptation, and tree care.
To ensure sustainability, trees were assigned to pupils from Primary Three to Six, with teachers supervising their growth. A School Environment Club was launched to promote conservation efforts among students and the wider community.
The project enhances biodiversity, prevents soil erosion, and supports local livelihoods by providing future sources of fruit and timber. It strengthens partnerships, empowers young conservationists, and fosters environmental responsibility. By aligning with UN SDGs 13 and 15, FOSCOD remains committed to community-led conservation, ensuring a greener and more resilient Kalagala Parish for future generations.
