Addressing Critical Community Challenges

In Naluvule Village, residents had to travel long distances just to access basic hairdressing and barber services. This seemingly small challenge had far reaching effects:

Young girls were exposed to risks of sexual harassment during long journeys, leading to cases of teenage pregnancy, school dropouts, and increased unemployment.
Children suffered from persistent fungal infections due to delayed or poor access to grooming services.
Families spent extra income and time traveling for such essential needs.

A Sustainable Solution

To address this, FOSCOD together wuth the community introduced a solar-powered salon. Powered entirely by the sun, this innovation has:

Reduced the risks associated with long treks for basic services
Created local employment and income opportunities
Offered an accessible, affordable, and sustainable service to the community
Provided a model for solar-powered small businesses
