Green Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment

Community-driven solutions in green livelihoods & economic empowerment for Kalagala Parish and beyond.

Slide 1 of 1

What we do

Green Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment

Grow inclusive green economies via agroforestry, savings groups, and climate-smart enterprise.

In Kalagala Parish, this sub-program addresses the specific challenges of a peri-urban area bordering Mabira Forest — where rural and urban service delivery gaps overlap, and communities face pressure on land, water, and forest resources.

Why Kalagala: The five communities (Kalagala, Kyambogo, Naluvule, Wabusanke, Byabuku) represent a "development limbo" — too urban for traditional rural programs, too rural for municipal services. CEDP bridges this gap with community-owned solutions.

Why this matters

The wider challenge behind the work

Climate resilience becomes tangible when households and groups can protect natural resources while improving income security. Skills, savings, market access, production risk, and enterprise follow-up must be considered together.

External context: Jobs and skills priorities in Uganda — World Bank. This source explains the wider challenge; it is not evidence of FOSCOD's results.

What meaningful progress looks like
  • Progress marker 1

Enterprises respond to a real market opportunity and local capacity

  • Progress marker 2

Participants can access savings, peer support, or appropriate finance

  • Progress marker 3

Income, business survival, and environmental outcomes are tracked separately

Who can add value

What FOSCOD will not overclaim

People trained, enterprises started, and livelihoods improved are different measures. FOSCOD reports them separately as evidence becomes available.
