Ecosystem Restoration & Carbon Offsets
Community-driven solutions in ecosystem restoration & carbon offsets for Kalagala Parish and beyond.
Slide 1 of 1
Ecosystem Restoration & Carbon Offsets
Restore degraded ecosystems and generate verified carbon credits through community conservation.
In Kalagala Parish, this sub-program addresses the specific challenges of a peri-urban area bordering Mabira Forest — where rural and urban service delivery gaps overlap, and communities face pressure on land, water, and forest resources.
Why Kalagala: The five communities (Kalagala, Kyambogo, Naluvule, Wabusanke, Byabuku) represent a "development limbo" — too urban for traditional rural programs, too rural for municipal services. CEDP bridges this gap with community-owned solutions.
The wider challenge behind the work
Restoration lasts when communities have secure roles, practical livelihood incentives, appropriate species and sites, and a way to monitor survival and ecosystem change. Carbon finance adds requirements for baselines, safeguards, ownership, verification, and transparent benefit sharing.
External context: Uganda's Updated Nationally Determined Contribution — UNFCC. This source explains the wider challenge; it is not evidence of FOSCOD's results.
Progress marker 1
Restoration design reflects local ecology and community priorities
Progress marker 2
Tree survival and ecosystem indicators are followed beyond planting day
Progress marker 3
Any carbon units and benefits are verified and communicated without double counting
Partner fit
A strong fit for restoration science, forestry, biodiversity, remote sensing, community tenure, carbon standards, MRV, and long-term finance partners.
Discuss a partnership →What FOSCOD will not overclaim
The Carbon Credit Project is planned. FOSCOD will not describe projected credits, removals, or co-benefits as achieved before validation and verification under the relevant standard.
See verified impact →Outcome-level targets — dated, not achieved
These are targets we are working toward by 2030, not current achievements. Progress is tracked annually in our MEL reports.
By 2030
Target 1
Biodiversity conservation across 15 local ecosystems
By 2030
Target 2
Community carbon projects developed against recognized certification methodologies
By 2030
Target 3
Transparent benefit-sharing with community carbon committees
