Lukolo East village, located in Jinja district, faced a severe water crisis, with residents traveling six hours to access clean drinking water. FOSCOD collaborated with Kakira Organization Rural Development (KORD) to address this critical problem.
We observed the community’s water collection and storage practices. Together with KORD and community members, we protected a local water spring and conducted water quality tests. The project also included hygiene education, particularly focusing on handwashing to prevent COVID-19.
To ensure sustainability, the community formed and trained a User Water Source Committee and registered the water source with local authorities. The intern further contributed by planting fruit trees to protect the environment. The community provided essential resources like labor, meals, and tools, while KORD supplied technical expertise.
FOSCOD’s involvement in this project was instrumental in emphasizing the need to align projects with community priorities for long-term sustainability and empowering the community to address their water crisis and improve their overall well-being.
