FOSCOD is dedicated to empowering children and young adults from high-poverty communities. Our intern from SUNY GENESEO collaborated with Masese CDC to implement a youth environment protection project.
The intern helped establish an environment club called ‘KERA CARES,’ providing training in life skills, production skills, and practical skills. This included leadership development, communication, team building, resilience, soap making, video production, waste management, and community mobilization.
The youth applied their newfound skills to conduct community outreach programs, raising awareness about waste management and organizing village cleanups. Additionally, they turned soap making into a profitable venture, selling their products to the community at competitive prices.
With support from FOSCOD, the youth pledged to continue making a positive impact on their communities using the knowledge and skills they acquired. FOSCOD’s involvement in this project was instrumental in empowering these young people to become agents of change and contribute to the health and well-being of their communities.
