We identified a critical need for menstrual health education and resources in Buyengo Village. Community assessments conducted by our team revealed a lack of knowledge, products, and a pervasive stigma surrounding menstruation, negatively impacting school attendance among young girls.
With FOSCOD’S support, our intern developed a sustainable project focused on training and empowerment. The project involved training menstrual health advisors, including local schoolteachers, to educate community members on proper menstrual hygiene. Additionally, workshops were conducted to teach individuals how to make reusable sanitary pads.
By providing these resources and knowledge, we empowered the community to address menstrual health challenges independently. This sustainable approach has the potential to be replicated in other schools and villages, expanding its reach and impact.
This project not only improved menstrual health outcomes but also shed light on the significant impact of this issue on school dropout rates, contributing to a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by young girls in Buyengo and Uganda.
